The Mary Mac Show | Grieving Children Podcast Series | Death of a Father | Misti Graham

In Episode 185, I speak with Misti Graham of Nashville, Tennessee, who shares with us her father’s stroke when she was 16 and his death of a massive heart attack when she was 19.

Misti graciously agreed to speak with me about her personal journey through the grieving process, the overwhelming stress and anxiety that came from being caretaker to her mother after her Dad’s death, and her courageous walk to health again after being diagnosed with PTSD.

We also spoke about how her mother was never the same after her husband’s death and relied on Misti heavily through her initial grieving process and even later in life.

Misti and I discussed the burden she felt and how it led to anxiety and stress for her.

And she shares some wonderful wisdom at the end for our audience.

The Mary Mac Show | Grieving Children Podcast Series | Death of a Father | Line Brunet

In Episode 184, I speak with Podcast Maven Line Brunet of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, who shares with us her father’s throat cancer diagnosis when she was 18 and his three-year battle before his death.

Line (pronounced Lynn) graciously discussed her colorful life growing up with her Dad, Lucien, a French Canadian who packed up the family when she was three, purchased a yellow school bus, took out most of the seats, added some of their furniture and drove to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, clear across the country from Ontario.

When Line was 18, her Dad was diagnosed with throat cancer after a lump appeared on his neck.

The next three years were spent working with alternative medicines in an effort to save his life.

Our time together brought many lovely memories of a man who lived life to the fullest and brought great joy to Line’s life in the short time she had him with her.

We also spoke about her mother’s life and her devotion to Line and her son after her Dad’s death.

In Episode 183, I continued my discussion with Dory Fier of Indianapolis, IN, a pediatric social worker, who shares with us the terminal diagnosis her father received and his nine-month battle with glioblastoma, an inoperable brain tumor.

In this second of two episodes, Dory and I delve deeply into how she dealt with the aftermath of his death and the physical symptoms that appeared for her.

We discuss how she wished she had taken advantage of the support system that wanted to help her and was grateful for those who did offer her assistance.

We also spoke about the difference between grieving an anticipatory death vs. a sudden death and her thoughts on that.

In Episode 182, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dory Fier of Indianapolis, IN, a pediatric social worker, who shares with us the terminal diagnosis her father received and his nine-month battle with glioblastoma, an inoperable brain tumor.

In this first of two episodes, Dory and I delve deeply into all aspects of her father’s battle with glioblastoma, his original stroke misdiagnosis and dealing with paralysis for the remainder of his life.

She speaks candidly about how she, her sister and mother rallied around her Dad and cared for him during those nine months, moving him back to Indianapolis where they lived, from his then home in New Mexico.

She also discusses the toll it took on herself mentally, physically and how she juggled it all with her personal and professional life.

The Mary Mac Show | Bereaved Mothers Podcast Series | Death of a Young Adult

In Episode 181, we continue our Bereaved Mothers Podcast Series featuring Raina of Southern California whose son Josiah had been diagnosed with cancer at 20 yet succumbed to a motorcycle accident at age 29.

A true creative, Josiah knew early in life that he wanted to perform.

And that’s exactly what he did.

But at the age of 20 he was having trouble breathing and a visit to the hospital proved a difficult diagnosis – hodgkins lymphoma.

Yet that didn’t stop Josiah.

He did everything he knew to cure his body through natural medicine, good food and much more.

And he succeeded.

And along the way, he learned flute and became a massage therapist.

Yet it was a motorcycle accident that ultimately took his life which was never expected.

In this episode, I am honored to welcome Raina Irene, Josiah’s mother, who shares her story of his life, diagnosis and death and with the wonderful support of her husband, Richard and children, Jeremy and Valerie, have coped with his death.
