The Mary Mac Show | Father’s Day

The Mary Mac Show Podcast

In Episode 81, we remember our father and father figures who made an impact on our lives. We also discuss the pain of bereaved fathers, and father’s whose wives are struggling to bear children and fear they will never be called “Dad.”

The pain from a father’s death is often severe especially if we had a wonderful relationship with our Dads.

But, sometimes, our relationship wasn’t as we would expect and we struggle with the ‘what if’s’ and perhaps guilt that may bring.

Yet whatever the relationship, good or bad, that we had with him, we must forgive ourselves and even moreso him for what you needed that you didn’t get, for what you and he said to each other that stung, and all the unfinished business that might still linger that neither of you can do anything about anymore.

We also recognize all the father figures who raised you and cared for you if your Dad died younger than expected.

And we also talk about bereaved fathers who have buried their child, children or even all their children.

Lastly, we look at men who struggle to have children with their wives, those who experience a miscarriage or stillborn child, as well as those who deal with infertility and/or the knowledge that they may never have children of their own. We also remember men who are older now and wished they had children years ago when it was more practical, or those who never found the right women to raise a family.

This can be a very melancholy day for some. Let us acknowledge them all.

The Mary Mac Show | Giving Back

The Mary Mac Show Podcast

In Episode 70, we look at Easter and Passover and how helping others, even though we ourselves are grieving, will uplift us while bringing joy to others.

After we’ve experienced a loved one’s death, we can be in despair, lonely and isolated, grief stricken beyond what we ever thought.

There are days when we hardly function and it takes all our efforts to move forward.

I get that! I do.

But this week, I’d like you to consider doing something nice for someone else.

Now I know you’re probably thinking “Mary, there is no way I can do that!”

But I’m asking this of you because you need to get out of your head. Out of thinking only about your loss.

When we take a little time to concentrate on the pain and isolation of someone else, we take the focus off ourselves.

And as crazy as that may sound, it will help you.

So listen in to Episode 70 and take the suggestions I give.

And please take a moment to rate and review my podcast at our new site – www.TheMaryMacShow.com.

Have a joyous Easter and wonderful Passover!

xoxo

The Mary Mac Show | Preparing for Valentine’s Day

The Mary Mac Show Podcast

In Episode 62, we look at our feelings as Valentine’s Day approaches and how to help ourselves through this special, yet melancholy, day.

Before we experienced our special loved one’s death, Valentine’s Day may have been quite joyous or not even on our radar.

If our spouse, fiance, boyfriend or girlfriend made it a special day for us, we will remember it with a longing for that again and are sad that we won’t be enjoying that again this year and, perhaps, in the future with them.

But there is no reason why we can’t not only remember the wonderful experiences we had with them, but plan something special for yourself with other friends so we aren’t so alone on this day.

Decide what would bring you happiness and call friends to meet for coffee, a drink or a meal. Toast to them, share memories and even through the tears, remember all the love they gave you.

You have a lot of love to give. Start to think about whom you’d like to share that with.

Perhaps you’ll rescue a beautiful cat or dog to be your forever fur baby.

Maybe you’ll spend time with a neighbor who is just as alone as you are.

Whatever possibilities come to you, giving love is the most precious gift you can give anyone.

When the New Year approaches we tend to take stock of the last year and consider new goals that will serve us, especially when we are grieving.

Yes, many times we think ‘who cares’ since we feel so blue without our special loved one.

But each of us has a choice to stay stuck or to venture into something new that can bring us joy, help us learn something or meet new people.

Take the time to listen in and take the time to set a plan for 2021.

Additional Notes – Some things that will help along this journey to ease the pain:
