The Mary Mac Show | Thinking the Unthinkable

The Mary Mac Show Podcast

In Episode 65, we venture into the dark places we sometimes find ourselves after a loved one’s death and look at ways to climb out of that pit toward a better place in life.

I’ve been noticing how often people on social media speak directly or indirectly about taking their own lives because the pain of not having their loved one with them is too unbearable.

There is no doubt that when we have experienced the death of a significant person in our life, our grieving process can be overwhelming, painful in spirit and body, and often times we are left wondering how we are going to live without them.

There are times when deep depression and isolation creeps in and we’d rather not be here.

I understand. I have lived that too.

In this episode I speak very candidly about what we go through when we are in that black hole and feel like we can’t get out.

And I give several suggestions as to what helped me, which I hope will help you also.

Winston Churchill once said “Never, Never, Never Give Up” and while you might think you want to, we’re here to talk about that and help you rise up to start to see something better and to give you the confidence to move forward again.

Bless you, my friend, my warrior!

xoxo

The Mary Mac Show | Grieving When Someone Famous Dies | Honoring Rush Limbaugh, Alex Trebek and others

The Mary Mac Show Podcast

In Episode 64, we look at the death of celebrities, sports figures, radio and tv personalities, actors and others and discuss why we are affected by their challenges and grieve their deaths.

One year ago this month, in Episode 10, I spoke about the severe diagnoses of Alex Trebek of Jeopardy fame, Rush Limbaugh of The Rush Limbaugh Show, and Kobe Bryant, who along with his young daughter and several others were killed in a helicopter crash in California.

Since that time, both Alex Trebek succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Sunday, November 8th, 2020 and this week, Rush Limbaugh died on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 after a year-long battle with stage-four lung cancer.

Consequently, I thought it appropriate to revisit how we feel when icons, such as these men, share their health struggles with us. And how it affects us, their followers, during the process and after they die.

Sometimes we wonder why we are so close to icons like this. Why we can be so affected.

But when you’ve welcomed them into your home and lives for decades, there is a reverence we have for them which does not go away.

They did what they loved for thirty years both educating and entertaining us and we are so grateful for that.

No one can take their place.

Sending you much love and hugs.

xoxo

The Mary Mac Show | How to Honor Ourselves on Our Birthday

The Mary Mac Show Podcast

In Episode 63, we look at ways to help ourselves as we approach our own special day each year after we’ve experienced a loved one’s death.

When we love and miss someone so much after they’ve died or were killed, there will come a day when our birthday is upon us.

We usually wonder how we will cope when their birthday or the anniversary of their death is approaching and how we will handle those days.

But somehow we don’t consider how our own birthday will be celebrated after their gone.

We don’t think that it will be as difficult for us because now they aren’t here to celebrate with us.

We don’t think about how we will reminisce about past birthdays we had with them and the gifts they gave us.

And that we won’t be getting those gifts from them again.

So in this episode, I wanted to talk about OUR Birthdays. How they affect us, how to prepare for them and how to give ourselves the love and care we deserve when they are no longer with us.

Bless you on this special day.

Be gentle with yourself.

And do celebrate YOUR life!!

Sending you much love and hugs.

xoxo

The Mary Mac Show | Preparing for Valentine’s Day

The Mary Mac Show Podcast

In Episode 62, we look at our feelings as Valentine’s Day approaches and how to help ourselves through this special, yet melancholy, day.

Before we experienced our special loved one’s death, Valentine’s Day may have been quite joyous or not even on our radar.

If our spouse, fiance, boyfriend or girlfriend made it a special day for us, we will remember it with a longing for that again and are sad that we won’t be enjoying that again this year and, perhaps, in the future with them.

But there is no reason why we can’t not only remember the wonderful experiences we had with them, but plan something special for yourself with other friends so we aren’t so alone on this day.

Decide what would bring you happiness and call friends to meet for coffee, a drink or a meal. Toast to them, share memories and even through the tears, remember all the love they gave you.

You have a lot of love to give. Start to think about whom you’d like to share that with.

Perhaps you’ll rescue a beautiful cat or dog to be your forever fur baby.

Maybe you’ll spend time with a neighbor who is just as alone as you are.

Whatever possibilities come to you, giving love is the most precious gift you can give anyone.
