The Mary Mac Show | Death By Fentanyl Podcast Series | Jaime Puerta 16 yo son Daniel

In Episode 191, I speak with Jaime Puerta, Co-Founder of VOID (Victims of Illicit Drugs), who discusses the death of his son, Daniel to fentanyl poisoning.

He graciously agreed to speak with me about his horrific experience finding his son in his room early on the morning of April 1, 2020. Daniel had taken only one half of what he thought was an oxycodone pill but instead it was laced with fentanyl.

On April 5th, Daniel was taken off life support.

Jaime Puerta with son, Daniel

Since that time, in addition to his grieving process, Jaime co-founded an advocacy group to help other families learn about the dangers of obtaining drugs online through SnapChat, a social media platform which erases correspondence very quickly.

Young people are buying drugs from dealers who claim to be giving them the drug they ask for, but instead, are selling them a deadly pill.

We also speak about Jaime’s advocacy work and the documentary by Dominic Tierno and Christine Wood entitled “Dead On Arrival” exposing the illegal drug trafficking of fentanyl from Mexico and four parents who tell their painful stories of how this claimed their children’s lives and the affects on their families.

The Mary Mac Show | Enough Fentanyl to KILL EVERY AMERICAN!

#fentanyl #death #onepillcankill

In Episode 190, I speak about the dangers of illegal fentanyl which can take a loved one’s life with one dose.

The days of experimenting with drugs are over. People who are addicted think they are getting their regular supply but even they don’t know how lethal one dose of cocaine, heroin, meth or other drug can be now.

And young people who are looking for a quick high, perhaps something to deal with their emotional pain, have no idea that this drug is laced in pills, even sometimes an illegal fentanyl pill that is 100% fentanyl.

It takes so little to kill you and your family members. And young people are vulnerable.

They just don’t know what they are getting involved with.

They may be out with friends at a party and someone offers them a laced pill or joint or line of coke.

And the effects are deadly.

There is no recovering from this unless someone has narcan available.

It only takes this minute amount of illegal fentanyl to kill you. Just look at that. Only that little amount!

So I encourage everyone to become aware of this epidemic killing our children and grandchildren.

Learn how to teach your children, grandchildren and other loved ones before it’s too late.

I realize it’s hard to have these conversations because you’re uncomfortable. And you think it might lead to them using the drugs.

But please understand the if you forgo having these conversations from kindergarten, you run the risk of their looking for relief from dealers on social media, or agree to take it from a friend.

Rainbow Fentanyl that looks like candy attract our youngest.

Be aware! Be educated. Your young ones’ lives are on the line.

There are too many families who are now grieving the loss of their children. Help yourself to not be one of them.

Wishing you much strength! And don’t wait. Have those conversations now!

xoxo

The Mary Mac Show | Death of a Father | Marc Hoover

In Episode 188, I speak with Marc Hoover of Batavia, Ohio and host of the “Catch My Killer” podcast, as he shares his father’s life and death with us, his struggle with cigarettes and horrors of his service in the Vietnam War.

Marc has been a great friend of my podcast, helping along the way since we both started our shows in 2019.

His show, Catch My Killer, is available on all platforms and on his personal site also. Visit here to learn more how he helps survivors of homicide victims get the word out about the unsolved murders of family members as well as to find missing persons.

In this episode, we speak about his father, Michael Hoover, who was a committed husband and father who suffered emotionally from the time he served in the Vietnam War and used cigarettes to cope throughout the rest of his life.

Marc tells how his father fought many demons from what happened in the war and shares several incidents there which shaped him and changed him.

Here is a memorable photo of Marc with his father on a beach in the Florida panhandle:

But it was cigarettes which ultimately caused his health to decline.
